Red River Immigration
The people who immigrated and settled by the Red River were about 80% Metis and the others were Scottish. -

The war of 1812 was conflict between the United states and the British Empire. One of the reasons why the war of 1812 happened is because the British restricted U.S. trade. Canada was a British colony at that time so Canadians were British allies. -

NWC and HBC merge
Tensions that were built between the two companies caused battles so they were forced to merge. The tension occurred because the NWC found an opportunity to be ahead of HBC by creating trapping areas for beavers in the northwest region. -
Upper/Lower Canada Rebellion

The two rebellions were caused by frustrations of political reform. The main goal they both eventually achieved was responsible government. The rebellions led to Lord Durham's report and the British North America act, or the BNA. -
Lord Durham's report
Lord Durham's controversial report contained recommendations to change the governing the colonies of Upper and Lower Canada, or the idea of union and make Upper and Lower Canada a single colony (which was accepted). -
Act of Union
The Act of Union was passed by the British Parliament and proclaimed on the 10th of February of 1841. It united the colonies of Upper and Lower Canada under one government, thus developing the Province of Canada. -

The Manifest Destiny was a belief that American settlers were destined to take over North America. -

Fraser Canyon Gold Rush starts
The Fraser Canyon Gold Rush was British Columbia's first significant gold rush. At least 30,000 gold seekers came to the Fraser River from Hope to North of Lillooet. -
James Douglas becomes govenor
Sir James Douglas was the first Govenor of the Colony of British Columbia and a company fur trader.
He is also known as "The Father of British Columbia".
James was the one to prohibit the sale of alcohol to Natives. -
Cariboo Wagon Road construction begins
