It's important because Sri Lanka got their independence and started making their own government -

Sri Lankan Freedom Party formed new government and Solomon Bandaranaike became Prime Minister.
Significance:
Since their independence they are starting to form their government and their country the way that they please, starting with the government type and the leader. -
Rioting Protesting New Laws
Tamils riot to protest of new laws. Riots end up killing more than 100 people.
Significance:
People are protesting new laws and the rioting is becoming violent. They shouldn't be so violent.They just had to protest to become independent and now they are protesting even more now that they are. -

Cyclones happen a lot in south Asia and this was a devastating one that killed a lot of people -

The government fell. This was a war against the islands majority Sinhalese population and the minority Tamils

This destroyed the whole government and also made both populations have conflict with each other -

Tamil Tiger a suicide bomber from the terrorist group LTTE killed President Premadasa after failed peace efforts
Significance: This was a very large event that left everyone in shock. The whole country needed to get a new president during other main events -
LTTE Bombers
A suicide bomber in Colombo killed 50, including an opposition presidential candidate named Gamini Disanayake
Significance:
The terrorist group LTTE is really hurting their government by killing political leaders which is causing chaos within the country -
Forces Fight Against LTTE
US listed LTTE as foreign terrorist organization and froze their funds in US
Significance:
By freezing their funds they hoped that their terrorist activity would slow and they wouldn't be able to get as good of weapons from the US -
Holy Site Damaged
LTTE bombed one of Sri Lanka's most holy Buddhist shrines. 13 people were killed, and the shrine was badly damaged -
UN Intervenes
UN Human Rights Council voted to hold international investigation into potential war crimes by the government and Tamil Tiger rebels the closing of the civil war

People in the government should be held accountable for the crimes that they committed even during the war
