    In 2004 Greece won the Euros. They won on 150-1 odds. after qualifying for the knockout stage where they faced a France team in their prime with players like Zidane and Henry. Greece Beat them 1-0. they then faced the Czech Republic who had Pavel Nedved (The Ballon D'or winner at the time), Greece won 1-0 to advance to the final against the hosts Portugal who had a Young Cristiano Ronaldo. Greece won the Final 1-0 to then lift the Euro cup. This had a lot of influence on Greeks in Australia.

    In 2006 Australia qualified for the world cup. Australia came second in their group which then qualified them for the round of 16 which was the first time in Australian Soccer history. They would then lose to the eventual winners Italy with a late minute penalty given to Italy.

    First League Game usage of Video Assistant Referee (VAR)
    VAR helps the referee to reviewing decisions using video footage and giving advice to the referee based on the reviews. They started trialing in the 2012-2013 season in the Dutch Eredivise. The first official match where VAR was used was on the 7th of April 2017 when Melbourne City versed Adelaide United, the game didn't use VAR. The first match to actually use it was a day later when Wellington Phoenix versed SydneyFC The Australian A-League Was the first top flight league to use a VAR system.

They got matched up against the eventual winners, Argentina and lost 2-1. Australia nearly sent the match to extra time with a last minute chance by Garang Kuol.

    The Womens World Cup was held in Australia in 2023. The Matilda's came first in their group which qualified them for the knockout stages. They then beat Denmark 2-0 in the round of 16. In the quarter finals they faced France who they beat 7-6 on penalties. The semi finals is where the Matilda's would lose to England 3-1.
