  • The Jockey Club founded

    The Jockey Club created a club to enforce rules, resolve disagreements, and create standards to keep the club running.
  • The First Collegiate Sports Club

    Yale created the first colegiate sports club by creating their boating club in 1843. Harvard would follow in their footsteps a year later with creating their own boat club.
  • The First All Professional Team

    The Cincinnati Red Stockings were the first all professional team by having pay all their players to play. This would soon lead to a debate on whether teams should pay their players.
  • The First Modern Olympics

    The first modern Olympics were held in 1896 in Athens, Greece. 311 athletes participated in these games from 13 different countries.
  • The First Tour de France

    The First Tour de France was ran in the July of 1903. The race starts in Paris and ran around France until the final stage which ended back in Paris. Maurice Garin won the first Tour de France.
  • The PGA is formed

    A group of professional and amateur golfers have a meeting at the Taplow Club in New York which led to the creation of the PGA.
  • The Red Sox Sell Ruth

    The Boston Red Sox sell their star player Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees for $125,000 beginning the curse of the Bambino and one of the greatest sports rivalries.
  • NFL is created

    The National Football League is created in Canton, Ohio birthing the most popular sports league in America.
  • Fifa World Cup

    The first FIFA World Cup was played in Uruguay starting a world championship for international soccer. The championship was won by the host country Uruguay.
  • Jackie Robinosn plays in the MLB

    African-American baseball player Jackie Robinson makes his MLB debut for the Brooklyn Dodgers marking the first African-American to play in the MLB. Robinson did not record a hit but he walked and also scored a run in a Dodgers victory 5-3.
  • NBA is formed

    Two rival basketball leagues the BAA and the NBL merge to create the National Basketball Association in New York.
  • Oklahoma Winning Streak is Over

    The Oklahoma Sooners football winning streak is now over due to the Fighting Irish from Notre Dame in a 7-0 game. The streak was the longest FBS streak in College Football History.
  • The First Super Bowl

    The Green Bay Packers won the first Super Bowl by a score of 35-10 against the Kansas City Chiefs. This would mark the first of the future biggest television event in the United States.
  • Secretariat Wins the Triple Crown

    Arguably the greatest race horse of all time, Secretariat won the Belmont Stakes to win the Triple Crown by a resounding 33 lengths.
  • Miracle on Ice

    The United States men's hockey team has defeated the four-time gold medal defending Soviet Union team in the gold medal game. This was a momentous moment for the US having be right in the middle of the Cold War as well as it united the country in some aspects.
  • Skater Nancy Kerrigan Attacked During Practice

    Nancy Kerrigan was bludgeoned by on her right lower thigh by a man named Shane Stant. One of Nancy's competitors, Tonya Harding ex husband, Jeff Gillooly and co-conspirator Shawn Eckhardt were also involved in the attack and is believed that Harding was involved as well. The goal of the attackers was to prevent Kerrigan from competing in the upcoming National Championships and Winter Olympics.
  • Tiger wins his First Masters

    Twenty-One year old Tiger Woods win his first of 14 majors at the Masters by shooting 18 under and the runner up carding 12 strokes behind Eldrick.
  • Jordan and the Bulls win their 6th ring

    Jordan wins his 6th ring by hitting the go ahead mid range jump shot with 3.2 seconds left in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. This caps off Jordan's perfect NBA Finals record.
  • Red Sox Breaking the Curse of the Bambino

    The Red Sox broke their historic curse of not winning a World Series in the past 86 years by sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2004 World Series. The Red Sox came back from a 3-0 deficit against the New York Yankees in the ALCS.
  • "Allen Corner Three... Bang"

    Ray Allen hits one of the clutchest corner 3's of all time with 8 seconds left in Game 6 of the NBA Finals to force overtime in a game the Heat would eventually go on to win and the series.
