    Fred Corcoran made the golf league successful because of ticket sales and he gained sponsors for the tournaments. He became the tournament director.
  • Breaking the color barrier in baseball

    The MLB, which had been a white man's game, was opened up when Jackie Robinson, and African American, joined the National League’s Brooklyn Dodgers. He proved to be one the the best players in the majors. He would later be elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

    Florence Chadwick crossed the English Channel from France to England in 13 hours and 20 minutes breaking the women's record. She then went on to cross the Channel 3 more times, each time beating her record.

  • First Super Bowl

    The Super Bowl I was played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California. The teams that played against each other were the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Packers won 35 to 10.

  • Magic Johnson

    Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was hurt in the fifth game of the Championship Finals. He was replaced by star rookie, Earvin “Magic” Johnson. Johnson, who was young and small was not expected to play very well. However he ended up scoring 42 points, 15 rebounds, and 7 assists. As a rookie Magic Johnson had led his team to victory in the final game, and was named the playoff MVP.
  • Changes in European Football

    Jean-Marc Bosman said that it was blocking free trade for his team not to transfer him to another team and the European court ruled in his favor. This opened transfer market of players.
  • Kerri Strug wins gold

    At the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, Kerri Strug under rotated in her first attempt at the vault and tore two ligaments in her ankle. They needed her to land her second attempt so they could beat the Russians and take home the gold. Even with a damaged ankle she was able to land it perfectly, winning gold for U.S.A in gymnastics

    The Boston Red Sox break their curse and and win their first Worold Series in 86 years against the St.Louis Cardinals.
  • Usain Bolt beats world record

    At the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Usain Bolt beats the world record in the 100 meter dash at a time of 9.69 seconds, blowing past the rest of the competition.
  • tiger Woods wins U.S. Open

    Tiger Wood had won 13 majors. He missed 7 months of playing because he was recovering from knee surgery. At the U.S. Open he wasn't at 100%, but he didn't let that stop him and he won.
