The game pong was released for the atari 2600 in the chritmas period of 1972. It was the first game that made it's way into poular culture. It was a hit in arcades and a hit at home. this game kickstarted the atari company and pushed them to the top of the of the sales for video games. -

the game company taito released the game Soccer in 1774 which was a lot like pong but had a black background which alowed you to move two paddles representing a goalkeeper and a forward player. Taito also released basketball which had a different background -

Electronic Arts, the company now synonymous with sports games, released Earl Weaver Baseball. No baseball game released prior to EWB was anywhere close as beautifully graphically, and the baseball was actually realistic.
EWB is widely ragrded as one of the best baseball games ever made. -

In 1988 the game John Madden Fotball was released and over the next few years the AI eveolved to something somewhat like the games we see today. -
1080 Snowboarding
1080 Snowboarding is one of my all time favourite ganmes. It had a really realistic physics and gravitational system that would give a really realistic feel to the game. there were sections with ice that woould reduce your turning abilities for a while and deep snow ares that would slow you down. -
Tony Hawks Pro Skater
For sales this game has dominated the market for skateboarding games. It is well known and has made a reputation for being arcadey but humorously violent. It is only in the recent years that other games have started to catch up with this franchise. -
EA Sports and 2K Take Over The Industry
In 2004 there were many games companies making various sports games but 2k Games and Ea Sports started to dominate the sports game industry when Ea signed a contract meaning that they would be the only people to have the rights to make american football simulators. 2k games also signed a contract meaning that they were the only company allowed to mae baseball games for the forseeable future. -
The Nintendo Wii
The nintendo wii revolutionised the sports games industry by bringing some form of movement to games. Their motion sensitive controller made it so that you could get excersise without leaving the house or moving very far. It also brough social gaming to the masses allowing families to sit down and enjoy games as a group.
