    The Opaque projector was the first projector. It was introduced in the 1950’s. This projector could project printed material or small 3d objects by inserting them in the projector. You couldn’t do a lot with this projector because objects had to be small and they couldn’t be heat sensitive. In this projector there was a bright lamp that shined on the object and the reflected light would go through the lens.

  • Overhead Projector

    Overhead Projector
    The Overhead projector is a lot like the slide projector. It was introduced in the 1960’s. To view something you would have to transfer it to a medium. You would transfer it into a transparency. A lamp and optics that are built in to the projector could then project it on to a wall. This projector was very popular because you could annotate the paper while it was being projected.
  • Digital Projection Panels

    Digital Projection Panels
    The digital projection panels were an extension of the overhead projectors. It used the same lamp and optics used in the overhead projector. It was introduced the the 1980’s. This projector was basically an electronic piece of paper. It became a large monitor for the computer.
  • Home Theatre Projector

    The Home Theatre projector was and still is rapidly growing because of the experience of a movie theatre you can have in your own home. This projector was also introduced in the 1990’s. These projectors can produce a 100+ inch projection for a whole lot cheaper then going to the movies.

    The Computer projector was the first data projector. It basically put the overhead projector and digital projection panel into one that was mobile and easily transported. It was introduced in the 1990’s. Like most new products it was big, heavy and expensive. It also had terrible image quality which led them to making it cheaper so people would actually buy them.
  • Pocket Projector

    Pocket Projector
    Pocket projectors are so small they can fit in the palm of the hand. You can bring these anywhere and can turn your phone into a tv. This projector was introduced in 2005. There are multiple little LED’s in the projector that are the light source. The Pocket projector maker are improving the video output and lowering the prices making them very popular in the market today.
