    A spanish explorer and soldier. He helped Cuba in 1511 and led a spanish royal expedition to North America. De Narvaez was granted the land of Florida by the Emperor Charles V in 1526.

    VASCO NUNEZ DE BALBOA

    VASCO NUNEZ DE BALBOA
    A spanish conquistador and explorer. He was the first European to see the eastern part of the Pacific ocean, after crossing the Isthmus of Panama overland. In 1500, Balboa sailed with Rodrigo de Bastidas from Spain to Colombia, South America. They searched for treasures (pearls and gold) along the northern coast of South America and in the Gulf of Uraba (near San Sebastian).

    FRANCISCO FERNANDEZ DE CORDOBA

    A spanish explorer and slave trader. He sailed from Cuba to the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexican with 3 ships and 110 soldiers.In 1524, the Governor of Darien, Pedro Arias de Ávila sent Hernandez de Cordoba to Nicaragua (Francisco de Soto accompanied him on this trip) to claim the land. On this trip, Cordoba founded the first permanent Spanish settlements in the area.

    HERNAN CORTES

    A spanish adventurer and conquirador. He killed the Aztec emperor Montezuma and took over his Aztec Empire of Mexico, claiming all of Mexico for Spain. Cortes sailed with 11 ships from Cuba to the Yucatan Peninsula to look for treasures. Hearing rumors of great riches, Cortés traveled inland and "discovered" Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec empire.

    A spanish explorer. He was granted the rights to conquer Florida and was named governor of Cuba in 1537.
