He searched for Cibola (7 cities of gold) and quivera. He discovered that the land had nothing for Spain. This is important because it stopped exploration to Texas for 150 years. -

Moscoso' Expedition
De Soto was the leader and he died of illness. Moscoso reported that there was indeed nothing for Spain which kept any exploration from happening in Texas for 150 years.
