Pineda created a map of the gulf. (Texas-Florida) Beacuse he mapped the gulf, further exploration occured. This is important because this led to further exploration of the gulf. -

Cortes conquered the Aztec Empire. He killed Montezuma.This is important because Tenochtitlán was later destroyed and what is now known as Mexico City, was built on top of the destroyed empire. -

DeVaca Discovers Texas
DeVaca and the other men built 5 ships that were eventually washed ashore on Galveston by a huge storm. He stayed in Texas for 8 years and met the Jumanos, Karankawas, and Coahuiltecans along the way. -

Fray Marcos and Esteban Journey
They were to study the land to the north. Esteban was killed eventually by the villagers. Fray Marcos reported about seeing the Seven Cities of Cibola. -

The leader was De Soto. De Soto died. Moscoso discovered the Mississippi River. This caused exploration in Texas to stop for 150 years. -

Coronado's Expedition
Coronado searched for Quivera and the Seven Cities of Cibola.His guide to Quivera was the Turk,.The Turk was killed by Coronado. Quivera turned out to be an Indian Villiage. Spain had the right to claim southwest Texas. Also, caused exploration to stop for 150 years.
