Sputnik
Sputnik was the worlds first artifical satellite. Sputnik was made by the Soviet Union to mark the start of the space race and so the Russins ould get ahead. Sputnik was the size of a beach ball and the mission lasted for about 2 months. -
The Pioneer Program
Starting in 1958 NASA and ARC created the Pioneer program. The point of the missions was to find out new information on the moon and jupiter. They were 12 probs all launched at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Pioneer 0, 1, 2 did not make it to the moon because it could not reach max speed. Pioneer 3, 4 and luna 1 made it to the moon. Pioneer 10 and 11 were sent to jupiter. -
Mercury
Mercury was created by NASA so they could orbit a man around Earth and to investigate a man's ability to function in space. This was the first U.S man to go to space. They also wanted to compete in the space race and land a man on the moon. -
Venera Probes
The Venera probes were made by the Soviet Union so they could reach Venus, Venera 1-6 all faild. Venera 7 was to transmit data from the surface of Venus, it was successful. Venera 8 was to find the atmospheric pressure on Venus. it was successful. Venera 9 was to send picture of venus it was successful. Venera 10 was to explore Venus from above, they recorded data and took pictures of Venus. Venera 11-12 were to exploore the ionosphere, atmoshhere, and surface. it was successful, -
The Mariner program
The Mariner program was created by NASA to send probs to Mars Mercury and Venus to find new information on the planets. 10 probes where launched and 7 were successful. Mariner 1, 2, 5, 10 traveled to Venus. Mariner 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 traveled to Mars. Mariner 10 traveled to Mercury. -
Gemini
Gemini was created by NASA. There were 19 total launches and 10 crewed missions and only 2 astronauts were able to orbit the Earth. It was ment for future Apollo missions. The Gemini launches took place in NASA base station in America. -
Space stations; The Skylab
The Skylab was the first ever Space station made by the USA. The skylab was ment for research it had a workshop, a Solar Observatory, and other labs for conducting research in space. It was the first ever Spacestation to get mayjor repairs in space. -
Space Stations; The Salyut
The salyut was the first to go into low earth. It was the longest lime a spaceshuttel stayed in orbit. It was created by Russia. its main missions were to reconnaissance missions for the Soviet Union but they also did experiments in long term space living. it deorbited on febuary 7th 1991. -
Viking
The vickings were made by NASA to explore mars. Vicking 1 was used to land on mars, take pictures, and study the ground. Vicking 2 was to orbit around mars and study a whole other part of mars. -
The Voyager Probs
The Voyager probs were created by Nasa to find out more about the other planets in our solar systam and find life on other planets the voyagers lifted off in Cape Canaveral in Florida. Voyager 1 observed jupiter, Saturn, and their moons. Voyager 2 observed Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune and their moons. -
Venera probes part 2
Venera 13 and 14 were to study Venus's atmosphere and soil. It took panoramic, colored pictures. Venera 14 took soil from Venus by frilling a 30mm deep hole, it was successful. Venera 15 and 16's goal was to make maps of venus's surfece. It mapped top half of venus's northern atmosphere, it was successful. -
Space Stations; Mir
Mir was the largest space station. Mir was made to resherch about Biology, Human Biology, physics, astonomy, meterology, and testing different space craft systems including the invention of being able to turn human waste into fresh drinking water and other things. It set lots of recards. -
Magellan Spacecraft
The megellan was launched into space on May 4th 1989 and was sent into orbit around venus by a spaceshuttel. Megellan's mission was to map out Venus and get better pictures of Venus. -
The Galileo Spacecraft
The Galileo Spacecraft was created by NASA so they could monitor Juoiter's atmoshere and use a remote-controlled spacecraft in deep space. We learnedlost about the Jovian system, jupiter's natural satellite, and we learned about the space around it. -
Hubble Space Telescope
April 25th 1990 Discovery is launched into space aboard the Discovery was the Hubble Space Telescope. Hubble was sent into space to orbit the Earth and get a clearer view above the atmosphere. -
NEAR Shoemaker
On Febuary 17th 1996 NEAR Shoemaker lands on Asteroid Eros 433. This mission was to land on the Asteroid Eros 433 to learn more about Asteroids. This was the 1st mission to orbit and land on a asteroid. There are more then 100,000 craters on Asteroid Eros 433. -
Mars Exploration Rover
This mission was to explore the surface of Mars with littel robots made by NASA. We found out life was substainable on Mars because of the water. It took great pictures of Mars surface. -
Cassini Mission
The Cassini was a flagship and was sent to Saturn to study the planet, it's moons, and Titan (one of Saturns moons). It was made by Sixteen European countries and the United States. Cassini sent out its probe called huygens sent for Titan and was successful. It still sends data today. -
Genesis Spacecraft
August 8th 2001 Genesis Spacecraft made by NASA was launched. Its mission was to collect solar wind and solar dust. On December 3rd 2001 its starts to collec solar wind and on September 8th 2004 it returns to Earth.
