Sputnik Program Launches
The Sputnik Program was a man-made satellite launched by the Soviet Union that was used to put the Americans on notice that they had better launch their own satellites, or soon the soviets would control outer space. -
The Pioneer Program Launches
The Pioneer Program was launched and sent into space as an unmanned mission with the task of exploring our solar system. -
Venera 1 Launches
Venera 1 launches and was the first planetary space probe launched into space. -
Mercury Program Launched
The Mercury Program put the first American, Alan Shepard, in space for a very brief period of time. -
Gemini Program Launched
The Gemini Program was launched to prepare astronauts for moon exploration and so they could learn how to survive in space for long periods of time. -
Mariner 4 Launches
Mariner 4 was sent out into space and was the first successful mission to Mars and brought back close up images. -
Venera 3 Launches
Venera 3 was the first spacecraft to land on another planet. It landed on Venus on March 1, 1966. -
Mariner 5 Launches
Mariner 5 Launches into space and brings back information on Venus' atmosphere. -
Mariner 9 Launches
Mariner 9 was sent into space and brought back the first pictures of the Masrtian moons. -
Mars Viking Probe 1 Launches
The Mars Viking Probe 1 was launched to go to Mars and reached Mars on June 19, 1976. It took 333 days and it brought back the first high definition pictures of Mars. -
Voyager 1 Launches
Voyager 1 was one of the U.S. unmanned missions sent into space to investigate possible life, new planets and stars, galaxies, Jupiter, Saturn and black holes. -
The Space Shuttle Launches
The Space Shuttle launched, recovered, and repaired satellites. It was operated by NASA from 1981 to 2011. It was the first reusable shuttle and retired after 135 missions. -
The Magellan Spacecraft Launches
The Magellan Spacecraft was launched from Cape Canaveral and sent to space to orbit Venus adn study it's surface, geography, and gravitational field. It discovered flat volcanoes and lava channels on Venus. -
The Galileo Spacecraft Launches
The Galileo spacecraft was sen tout into space to view Jupiter. It became the first spacecraft to orbit Jupiter on December 7th, 1995. December 7th, 1995 was the entry date into Jupiter’s atmosphere. -
The Hubble Space Telescope Launches
The telescope was sent out to observe Pluto in detail and discovered a fifth moon around Pluto. It has solved the problem of atmospheric distortion. The Hubble makes a revolution around Earth every 97 minutes. -
N.E.A.R. Mission Launches
The N.E.A.R Mission launched into space because we wanted to make the first quantitive and comprehensive measurements of an asteroid. It became the first spacecraft to orbit an asteroid. -
Cassini Spacecraft Launches
Cassini was sent to orbit Saturn's moon, Titan. It studied Saturn's rings and moons as well as the temperatures on Titan. Landed on Titan January 14th, 2005. -
Expedition 1 Launched
The first ISS crew launches and is in orbit for 141 days. It was on ISS for 136 days. -
Genesis Spacecraft Launches
The Genesis spacecraft was an unmanned mission, launched form Cape Canaveral, sent to space to collect solar wind witht the Gensis sun collector rays. -
Mars Rover 'Spirit' Launched
The Rover 'Spirit' was one of the four successful rovers sent to Mars which taught us: evidence of water in the past, geology, climate, and photos. -
Expedition 35 Launches
The 35th expedition of the ISS launches into space and will land back in May 2013.
