Sputnik Program
took 98 minutes to orbit once. Made to observe Earth and collect data. 1st was launched October 4, 1957. Sputnik was 23 inches and weighed 183 pounds. Spent 1.5 million to make. Six flights in all. 3 goals of the program. Established and launched in the US. -
Pioneer Space Missions
Who: USAF, NASA, and TRW. 15 space probes launched. Took place in Cape Canaveral. August 17 1958- August 8, 1978 -
Venera Probes
Soviet Union was invloved in program. 1st probe:May 19, 1961. 16 missions. 4-16 succeeded. 1-3 failed miserably. Soviet Union was in full control of the Venera Probes. Russians wanted to beat americans to venus and get more pictures than them. -
Gemini Program
Launched April 19, 1966. Made to get humans into space. -
Mariner Program
Spacecraft was made to discover Mars, Venus and Mercury. This occured from 1962-1973 and was many spacecrafts were launched between this time. -
Space Stations
When: April 19, 1971 and returned October 11, 1971. Russia launched Almaz. Mir: launched Fuburary 20 1986. ISS launched November 20, 1998. Tiangong: launched by China. This happened because space stations needed more research. -
Viking Probes
NASA and Chris McKay were the main people who designed the probes. Used to get images of mars. Scientists were doing this to find different chemicals and any signs of life. Manufactured in the US. Launched Aug. 20 1975 arrived June 19, 1976 and on June 20, 1976 the viking 1 landed on Mars's surface. -
Voyager program
2 probes were used to view Jupiter and Saturn. All these launches were conducted at the Kennedy space station. Voyager launched for 1977-1986. 4 probes were launched. -
Space Shuttle
An alternate to space exploration. Launched April 12, 1981-July 21, 2011. NASA, and some other helped design the shuttle. Launches happened in Cape Canaveral, Florida. -
Magellan Space Program
Launched May 4, 1989. NASA launched this to go to Venus and learn more about the planet. -
Galileo
NASA launched spacecraft to Jupiter to explore its moon -
Hubble telescope
Weighed 24500 pounds. and 43.5 feet long. Launched to take pictures of the galaxy and teach about galaxies interacting. Launched April 24, 1990 and broke that year and took 3 years to fix. -
N E A R expedition
Funded by the NASA organization. cost 120 million dollars. First satellite to land on an asteroid. First mission under NASA's discovery. Launched from cape canaveral air force base in the US. Launched 1996-2001. Happened to advance human knowledge. -
The Mars Rovers
Rovers were sent to mars to examine territory. Launched from England, Europe, Russia, and the US. -

Genisis
NASA, CIT, and JPL made this spacecraft. It was made to collect things in space and gain enough energy to enter the atmosphere. IN space for 886 days. Launched August 6 2001.
