The Sugar Act
This act increased taxes on sugar. The colonist were paying more money for these goods so the British Army could have what they needed. This became an issue of taxation without representation. -
The Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was a law stating that printed things, like newswpapers, had to be printed on special paper that came from Britian. The items that were printed on the special paper had been taxed more also. -

Battle of Fort Moultrie
Fort Moultrie was build on Sullivan's Island. It was surrounded by palmetto trees. The trees would not crack or break when bombs would hit them. Instead they would absorb the shock. During the battle in June, the flagstaff got knocked down. Willam Jasper recovered the flag and placed it on a temporary staff. -
Declaration of Independence
Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. This is a statement of the colonies establishing their independence from Britian. -
Battle of Kings Mountain
Because maps were not as accurate in the 1700s as they are now we are not sure if the battle actually took place in South Carolina or North Carolina. -

The Battle of Eutaw Springs
This was the last major battle in the Carolinas. This was one of the bloodiest battles in the Revolutionary War. -
Francis Marion Retired
Francis Marion was a very important leader in the military during the Revoultionary War. He used guerrilla warfare and had the nickname of "Swamp Fox."
