Francisco Pizarro Defeated Amerindians at Cuzco
Spanish conquistador, Francisco, learned of the Incan culture and left the Middle American region for Spain to plot the overthrow of the empire. He returned to the Peruvian area in 1531 and was victorious in 1533.

The Monroe Doctrine
The Monroe Doctrine was instituted in 1823, terminating all European rights to South America. The United States played a role in this decision. The U.S. stated that any European decisions or attempts to settle in or colonize any further countries in the Americas would be viewed as acts of aggression and treated as such. It was called such because President James Monroe created it.
