Softball in the Olympics
Softball was introduced as an Olympic sport for women-only in the 1996 Summer Olympics. The decision to add the sport to the 1996 Olympic programme was made in 1995. The IOC had a committee called the International Olympic Committee on Women and Sports. -
The 2000 Olympics
The USA softball team was looking very promising for the next coming years as the 2000 Olympic team took gold in Sydney Australia. Beating Australia 1-0 and Japan 2-1 in eight innings. -
The 2004 Olympics
In the 2004 games the USA softball team once again proved that they are the best in the world by winning gold in Athens. The gold-medal games was USA versus Australia, the final score of this game was 5-1. -
The 2008 Olympics
In the 2008 games it was told that softball was no longer going to be in the olympics after the Beijing games. The decision decided because the commitee said that the USA team kept winning gold so that it was not fair to the other countries. However that same year the USA team lost to Japan in the gold-medal game, 3-1. -
The 2012 Olympics
In these Olympic games softball was not considered an Olympic sport. During these games the softball community around the world was fighting the decision of the Olympic committee to get softball back. The committee finally made the decision to bring it back, but not until the 2020 Olympics. -
The 2016 Olympics
In this year's coming games the Olympic committee will make the final decision of bringing back softball into the 2020 Olympic games.
