  • First Day of 1st Grade

When I was 7 and going into 1st grade, it was going to be the first time I was separated from my siblings during school. It made me very scared because I was without them and gave me the opportunity to make my own friends. The agent of socialization was school
  • First Day of Middle School

When I was 11 I was starting the 6th grade. This was the first time I had to move all 7 classes and had way more responsibility than I was used to and comfortable with, this was my first time having a GPA (for middle school) and higher level classes. The agent of socialization was school.
  • COVID-19

Near March in 6th grade when I was 11, the introduction of COVID-19 in Michigan occurred. Eventually we were taken to online school where communication and life become way more difficult with social distancing and wearing masks. The agent of socialization was school and family/daily life.
  • Coaching a K-2 Basketball Camp

This past winter (I am 15) I got the opportunity to help out Coach little kids for basketball. This was the first time I really got to lead and help others learn things, which influenced me to want to become a teacher. The agent of socialization was peer groups.
  • Making the JV softball team for the 2nd year in a row

Last week, (age 15) I had tryouts for softball where I was pulled up for varsity while also working with the JV squad. Making the JV team allowed me to become a captain and play without my sister for the 1st time ever, which feels a bit scary. The agent of socialization peer groups and sports.
  • RISE Softball Camp

A couple weeks ago (age 15) I had a RISE camp for the first time without my sister. This made me scared and I had really felt like I was disappointing my family and that I had underperformed. I was out of my comfort zone and alone while also having to speak to people I have never met. The agent of socialization is family, and peers (sports).
