  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    In 1765, Parliament passed the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act was a requirement of Americans to purchase a stamp on any printed documents including newspapers, legal documents, marriage licenses and more.
  • The Townshend Act

    The Townshend Act
    In 1767, Parliament passed the Townshend Act. The Townshend Act was a new set of taxes on imports such as glass, lead, paint, paper and tea. They also narrowed down the British troops in America.
  • Boston Massecre

    Boston Massecre
    On a Monday night in March, 1770, an American Patriot started harassing a British soldier named John Goldfinch. Hugh White, another soldier standing guard, got aggravated and came over to defend him. Hugh White got mad and struck the harasser in the face. An angry mob that had formed began throwing chunks of ice at White and shouted “Kill him!” Finally, the Redcoats had to fire upon the mob. This started the revolution.
  • Burning of the Gaspee

    In 1772, Colonialists burned down the British tax collecting ship, called the "Gaspee."

    In 1775, 200 British marines including German Hessians came to Jamestown and burned about 20 homes of the colonists. They took pigs, cattle, furniture, and more.
