    Benjamin Mays was a minister, a teacher, and a scientist. His most famous student was Martin Luther King Junior.
  • Three Governors Controversy

    Three Governors Controversy
    Eugene Talmadge died, and Ellis Arnall was next in line to be the governor. However, by law, M. E. Thomson (Lt. Governor) was the next governor.     The Georgia flag was found offensive for incorporating the Confederate battle flag in its design. On July 1st, 1956, this flag was changed as to be less offensive.

    The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee was a nonviolent civil rights committee from the 1960s. It focused on blackpower and later he Vietnam war.

    The Sibley Commission was responsible for collecting public feelings about desgregation. It was tasked by Governor Ernest Vandiver Junior to inquire as to the attitude of schools about desegregation.

    Martin Luther King Junior was a renown civil rights activist. He is especially known for his famous "I Have a Dream" speech. He lead peaceful demonstrations and nonviolent protests.     Although he is best known as a segregationist wo refused to serve blacks at his restaurant to defy the Civil Rights act, he employed many blacks during his later terms, and eventually served as Vice President alongside president Jimmy Carter.
