    Argentina in Recesision
    With Argentina in recession the president Leopold Galtieri decided to conscript into the army. With a large army and a higher employment rate the Argentinian government launched an attack on the British held Falkland Islands. Argentina put a team of soldiers on to south Geogria and didn't get permission from the British government. The British found out about these troops and told them to leave. After the troops didn't leave the British sent a task force and the Falklands war started.

    On April 2nd 1982 Argentina attacked a group of British held islands called the Falklands. At this time the islands were protected by a small group of British troops who were pushed back into the hils when Argetina attacked. There were 12 British marines on the Island of South Georgia.

    SAS recapture South Georgia
    The British Special Forces and Royal Marines attacked the island of South Georgia. Argentina's general Alfredo Astiz surrender the island on the 26th of April. Argentina lost one soilder and one submarine in the fight and the British lost two helicopters which crashed in bad weather.

    Sinking of the ARA Genral Belgrano
    The ARA General Belgrano was a crusier that was the first major loss of life in the Falkland war. It was sunk by the HMS Conqueror. 323 sailors were lost when the ship went down
  • HMS Sheffield Sinks

    HMS Sheffield Sinks
    The HMS Sheffiled was hit by an exocet air to sea missle which caused the Destoyer to catch fire and sink. 20 sailors were killed and another 24 were injured.

    SAS raid on of 3 airfields
    The airfield on Pebble Island. The British sent 45 SAS troops to attack 150 Argentinian troops. The British had 2 troops wounded whilst Argentina lost 1 troop and 11 aircraft.
  • Argentina Surrenders

    Argentina Surrenders
    After 2 months, 1 week and 5 days of combat the Argentinian forces surrended. The British forces then regained full control of the islands.
    Now over 1,200 British soldiers protect the islands from the Argentian forces.
