  • French Revolution

    The french revolution was not just one event but a bunch of smaller events in it. They all happened over about 10 years. In the 18th century, France was about to be bankrupt because of how it was involved with the American Revolution. This led to a bunch of problems in their government and their society and that made the French Revolution happen,.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    This was the thing that basically started the French Revolution. The third estate was locked out of a meeting so they decided to meet on a tennis court and have a meeting of their own then created the Tennis Court Oath. This oath meant that they would never stop until there was a written constitution had been established for France.
  • Residential Schools

    Residential schools were meant to make indigenous people more like the rest of Canadians and leave the ways of their indigenous culture. This was forced upon these children and the parents could do nothing about it. these children were abused in more ways than one. The girls were used in very unpleasant sexual ways which is something no human should ever have to go through.
  • Civil War

    This was a war that was fought between the USA and the Confederate States of America which was a collection of 11 southern states. The war was pretty much just because of a disagreement on slavery.
  • Triple Alliance

    The Triple Alliance was a secret agreement between Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy made in 1882. The treaty said that Germany and Austria-Hungary would support Italy if they were attacked by France, Italy would assist Germany if they were attacked by France and if a war happened between Austria-Hungary and Russia Italy wouldn't help out either side.
  • Schlieffen Plan

    The Schlieffen Plan established that if a war broke out Germany would attack France first and then Russia. Instead of a 'head-on' engagement and the opponent should be enveloped and its armies attacked the flanks and rear.
  • WW1

    WW1 is also one that had a bunch of little events leading up to it. One of them was the assassination of the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife. Austria-Hungary used this as an excuse to settle its problem with Serbia. On July 28 1914 Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia and within a week almost all of Europe was at war. About 8.5 million soldiers died during this war and 13 million civilians.
  • Battle of Vimy Ridge

    Vimy Ridge was captured by the Canadiens and this was essential to the British army for tactical reasons because of the German army in 1918. After the battle, there were 3598 dead out of 10,602 casualties.
  • Wilsons 14 Points

    These 14 points were meant to be used for peace negotiations after world war 1. In his speech, he talked about what he believed to be the reasons for the war starting. He called for the abolishment of all secret treaties and made points to keep world peace in the future.
  • Treaty of Versailles

    The Treaty of Versailles what the treaty that would formally end world war I. It was signed by Germany and the Allied nations in 1919. This treaty required Germany to pay for the damages caused by the war and to give up part of their territory and disarm their military so they would never have the power to do what they did again.
  • League of Nations

    The League of Nations which last from 1920 – 1946 was the first intergovernmental organization established to promote international cooperation and to achieve international peace and security. It is often referred to as the “predecessor” of the United Nations.
  • Holodomer

    The Holodomor was a famine in Ukraine where a lot of people also died. This caused millions of deaths in 1932 and 1933 and was because of the Soviet policies.
  • German internment camps

    After the beginning of WW2, a lot of Germans were put in concentration camps. about 1.65 million were registered prisoners in the camps and about a million of them died while they were in the camps. Most of these deaths happened in the second half of the war. this included about 700,000 who were registered as of January 1945. The cmaps were slowly shut down in 1944 and 1945.
  • WW2

    This war involved more than 30 countries and was the deadliest war in human history. The war started because of the Nazi invasion of Poland in 1939 and went on for 6 very brutal years. It ended when the Allies defeated the Nazis, Japan, and Italy in 1945.
  • Nuremberg Trials

    There were 177 defendants, 20 of them were sentenced to life in prison, 24 of them were sentenced to death and the other 98 just got other prison sentences. Many of them got out in the 1950s because of pardons.
