Luce-Cellar bill was signed
The Luce-Celler Bill overturned several decades of federal immigration laws that discriminated against specific Asian nationalities by reopening immigration from India, granting the right of naturalization to immigrants from those countries. It permitted Indians who had entered the US legally to be naturalized. At the same time, the law imposed a quota of one hundred Indian immigrants per year, effectively activating a provision of a federal law enacted earlier during the twentieth century. -

Immigration Reform and Control Act
This bill gave unauthorized aliens the opportunity to apply and gain legal status. Applicants had to prove that they lived and maintained a continuous physical presence in the U.S. since January 1st, 1982, possess a clean criminal record, and provide proof of registration with the Selective Service. Moreover, applicants had to meet minimal knowledge requirements in U.S. history, government and the English language or be pursuing a course of study approved by the Attorney General. -
The Immigration Act of 1990 is passed
This was an amendment to US immigration law that increased the number of legal immigrants that entered into the US every year. The amendment introduced a "lottery" system which assigned visas randomly. The main reason for this was to change previous US immigration law that prohibited the granting of visas to immigrants from certain countries. Other changes included in the act was a condition that prevented immigrants from entering the US because of their homosexuality or HIV-positivity. -

The US PATRIOT act is signed by President Bush
This amended the INA to prohibit agents of foreign terrorist organizations from entering the US. Their family may also be prohibited from entering the US depending on the circumstances. This is to prevent the possibility of attacks or the collection of funds to finance future attacks. This act also provides the language and structure to classify terrorist organizations and what actions constitute a terrorist attack.

Implementation of the Enhanced Border Security and Visa Entry Reform Act of 2002
It ordered the creation of a data system containing information used for determining the admissibility or deportation eligibility of foreigners. It set standards for a system to track the entry and exit of visa holders.
