In the 1960's, birth control in the form of an oral pill form became available; the popularity of this skyrocketed and became widely used. -

Challenged conventional thought of war, sexuality, society, music, and authority in daily life. Culturists were known as "hippies." -
Drug use becomes highly popular
Drugs such as birth control as a contraceptive and marijuana and other psychoactives for recreational use became key to the movement; sexual and social freedom grew in popularity rapidly. -
Childbirth rates drop
With contraceptives and a stronger economy combined, more and more Europeans are having less and less children. -
Guest Workers become prevalent
Especially used between Germans and Turks; Germans needed jobs done, while Turkish people needed work for pay, so they were invited on work visas into Germany to do work. These jobs were often dnagerous, menial, or altogether unpleasant, for minimal pay. -

High point of psychedelic rock; enfore Beatles' standing as top of rock'n'roll at that era. Opens door the psychedelic rock worldwide. -
Declaration on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women
An adoption of the Univ. Decl. of Human Rights, but focused on women who were glazed over with the last declaration. Discrimination is unjust, women have the right to vote and enjoy full protection of laws, and the right to education and equality in the workplace. -
French General Strike
Massive general strikes took over France by the workers; these were ed by students who occupied these factories and shut them down, leading strikes of millions of people against corporations. Street fighting broke out against police but was quickly shut down. -
Switzerland gives women the vote
Suffrage amendments pass in Switzerland, following in footsteps of many other European countries -
Sex Discrimination Act
Law passed in Britain that forces employers to give equal conditions to women, including pay and hours and benefits. -
Equal Opportunities Commission
Committee in Britain; enforced the Sex Discrimination Act of 1975 along with wage controls and working condition regulation. Forced employers to balance out workload and pay for women versus men. -
Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women
Essentially a Bill of rights for women, globally. This was set up by the UN to promote gender equality. Women are given equal representation in government levels, and authority figures are all required to protect them from gender violence. -
Liechtenstein grants female suffrage
