From 1891-1914 around 170,000 Ukrainians came to Canada, From the western parts of Ukraine. They were called "aliens" then when the war broke out they were called "Enemy aliens"

Land that was "abandoned" started to be taken and camps started being built and Ukrainians started being taken to said camps. Of course made to do eunpaid work such as building railways, farming, and working in mines.

The last camps closed in February 1920 and Canada's first national internment operations officially ended in June 1920. One of these camps was located at Morrissey, in the Elk Valley of southeastern British Columbia. 1,862 people died and more were undocumented.
