The Beginning
Soccer began with the Pilgrims and Native Americans playing. It was originally called “Pasuckquakkohowog" by the Native Americans. -
College Soccer
Many colleges had a team but their wasn't an official league yet. It was very casual play and the rules were changed often. -
First Soccer Club
Oneida Soccer Club was formed in Boston by Gerritt Miller Smith. There is a monument built now where the played there home games. -
First College Game
The first official college soccer game was played between Princeton and Rutgers. Rutgers won 6-4. The game was more like rugby than common day soccer. -
United States Futbol Association
The USSFA was admitted to the board of FIFA. -
First National Team
The team traveled to Norway and Sweden and played 6 games. They finished 3-1-2. -
American Proffesional Soccer League
The APSL was created and had 6 teams in it. -
First World Cup
Held in Uruguay. They were one of 13 countries to play in the tournament. Wouldn't play in it again untill 1990. -
Major Leauge Soccer
MLS was founded. The current leaague today with 19 teams and soon to be 20. -
World Cup in America
In a warm up game 491,123 fans watched the US beat Mexico
1-0. 3.5 million fans came to the states to watch the World Cup beating the previous record of 1 million fan travelling to the cup. US lost to Brazil, the cup winner, 1-0 in the round of 16. -
Brazil World Cup
Arguabley they Nationals team best performance ever in the World Cup. They finished second in their group. Beat Ghana who knocked them out the previous two cups. Lost to eventual winners Germany 1-0. Knocked out in round of 16 by Belgium. 2-1 final score. 0-0FT. 2-1 overtime -

Donavan is the best American ever to play the game of soccer. 57 goals for the national team. Record. 58 assists. Record. To retire at the end of the MLS season. 144 goals in MLS. Record. 136 Assists. Record.
