Slaves arrive to America
The first slaves to arrive to America was in 1619 and they were slaves until slavery ended around 1865. They arrived to America on ships that had very bad conditions. Many got sick and died on the ships. The people who got to America, were auction off as soon as possible. Slaves were also treated poorly and had no respect. -
Slave Trade Abolished
The US makes international slave trade a felony in Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves. -
Missouri Compromise
Defuse the sectional and political rivalries triggered by the request of Missouri late in 1819 for admission as a state in which slavery would be permitted. -
Wilmot Proviso
Wilmot Proviso was a designed to eliminate slavery within the land aquired as a result of the Mexican War. -
Fugitive Slave Acts
Allowed for the capture and return of runaway slaves within the territory of the United States. Levied even harsher punishments for interfering in their capture. -
Compromise of 1850
Defused a four-year political confrontation between slave and free states regarding the status of territories acquired during the Mexican–American War . -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Uncle Tom's Cabin became a very succesful book...in the north. The book was about a slave who was sold to a very arragant and mean master. This book makes people join the abolition group. The South made this book illegal due to the things they said in the book. -
Bleeding Kansas
Series of violent political confrontations in the United States involving anti-slavery "Free-Staters" and pro-slavery "Border Ruffian" -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
It allowed people in the territories of Kansas and Nebraska to decide for themselves whether or not to allow slavery within their borders. -
Dred Scott v. Sanford Supreme Court Case
The Dred Scott v. Sandord Supreme Court Case happened in 1857. Dred Scott was a slave that was in a safe territory for slaves, but his master forced him to come back. This made Dred Scott to sue his master for he was in an anti-slavery state. -
John Brown’s Raid on Harpers Ferry
John Brownwas a white abolitionist and formed an army and attacked Harper's Ferry.
