Three-Fifths Compromise
Every slave have 3/5 of a vote. For every 5 slaves voted, only 3 of them are counted. -
Missouri Compromise
Prohibited slavery in the Lousiana Territory. -
Nat Turner's Rebellion
A slave rebellion lead by Nat Turner, killing 60 white Americans. -
Wilmot Proviso
Prohibited slavery in territories acquired from Mexico in the Mexican War. -
Fugitive Slave Act
All escaped slaves who are captured must be returned to its owner. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
Opening new land for settlement in Kansas and Nebraska. Repealing the Missouri Compromise and used popular sovereignty to allow or prohibit slavery. -
Dred Scott Decision
The supreme court decided that African Americans, free or not, can not be American citizens. -
John Brown and Harpers Ferry
John Brown seized an arsenal at Harpers Ferry as an attempt to satrt an slave revolt, but because of the lack of participating slaves, the mission failed. Later, John Brown was trialed and hanged for treason. -
Election of 1860
The election between two of main candidates: Abraham Lincoln and Stephan A. Douglas. Abraham Lincoln won and became president with 180 electoral votes. -
Emancipation Proclamation
President Abraham Lincoln issued an proclaimation saying that all slaves in the South are now legally free. -
