  • The Missouri Compromise Of 1820

    The Missouri Compromise Of 1820
    A bill passed by congress granting Missouri the only slave state in the North side in the Louisiana Purchase increasing slavery. This bill lasted more than 30 years.
  • Nat Turner

    Nat Turner
    Nat Turner was a slave who freed slaves to rebel against the white people.They killed 51 white people which lead to people questioning if slavery was wrong or not. This lead to disagreements with North and South causing the Civil War.
  • Dred Scott

    Dred Scott
    Dred Scott was an African American who's slave owner took him to the North where he fought for his freedom. This court trial was called Dred Scott v. Sandford. He lost the trial because the supreme court told him slaves were not citizens of the United States causing an uproar. It had a great impact on slavery because it was one of the biggest case involving the matter of slavery that lasted 11 years.

    Mexican American War
    first U.S fight in foreign soil. United States wanted to expand resulting in a war between Mexico. Mexico lost one-third if its territory in the war. After Texas won its independence from Mexico they wanted to be part of the United States. The U.S was hesitant because they did not want another slave state but later agreed in 1854 which expanded slavery because they were pro slavery.

    The Treaty Of Guadalupe Hidalgo
    This treaty was made after Mexico lost in the war giving about 525,000 square miles of land to the U.S. The land which is known in present time as New Mexico Arizona,California,Colorado,Nevada,Utah and Wyoming. Most o these states were slave states once again expanding slave trade.
  • Fugitive Slave Act

    Fugitive Slave Act
    A of federal law that allowed to capture and return of run away slaves. Anyone who apposed this was given harsh punishment giving slave owning more power. It was later repelled by Congress in 1864.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    Bleeding Kansas
    Violence broke out after the Kansas Nebraska act because people wanted to influence the vote on Kansas to be anti or pro slavery impacting the extension of slavery on the U.S if to succeed. This caused an up roar and both sides started getting into fights thus earning the name "Bleeding Kansas''.

    Kansas Nebraska Act
    This act allowed each state to be able to pick weather to be a slave state or not. Stephen Douglas proposed this because he was pro popular sovereignty meaning he wanted the people to pick if they wanted their state to be anti slavery or not. This impacted slavery in the U.S because depending on popular sovereignty slavery could expand or decrease.
  • John Brown

    John Brown
    He was an extreme abolitionist who believed in ending slavery for good. During the "Bleeding Kansas conflicts he led an attacks on pro-slavery residents with his sons. He soon became an icon for Northerners and planned mission with his followers to capture and steal weapons to arm slaves for a rebellion. He was caught during the action a hanged. John impacted slavery with his strong beliefs to end it influencing many Northerners.
