Colonial North America's slave trade started when the first American slave carrier is built and launched in Massachusetts.
This is the new begining for American slaves. -
Punishment
Connecticut allowed to punish the slaves by whipping to any who disturb the peace or assault whites. Some whites treated them as pets but not human. -
Georgia prohibits the use opf slaves
Georgia prohibits the importation and use of black slaves. Georgia made a step in the right direction to reduce the amount of slaves. -
Georgia trustees allow the importation of black slaves
Georgia's trustees permit the importation of black slaves. Georgia had started to prohibit the import and use of slaves but now the trustees want to allow it. -
Declaration of Independence
In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the members of the Continental Congress sign the Declaration of Independence. More states were against slavery since the start of the declaration of independence. -
A jumpstart to end slavery
In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the Quakers, forbids its members from having slaves. This was a jumpstart to the effort of ending slavery thanks to the Declaration of Independence. -
Rhode Island forbids
Rhode Island forbids the removal of slaves from the state. Although many states have slowly ended slavaery, others will not make the effort to. -
Virginia
Virginia prohibits the importation of slaves. Virginia is making a huge step to end slavery. Not only is Virginia making an effort, but, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the Quakers. -
The Compromise of 1850
The Compromise of 1850 allowed California as a free state, allows thestates of New Mexico and Utah to be decided by popular sovereignty, and bans slave trade in D.C. -
Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln is elected to the presidency. Also, the slave population is about four million. The ratio to free and enslave slaves is 7:1 -
Civil War
The Civil War started in Charleston, South Carolina. Althogh, many black slaves were free, 75,000 blacks volunteering for the U.S. army and got rejected. -
Emancipation Proclamation
Lincoln issues the Emancipation Proclamation. This freea all slaves in areas of rebellion. Lincoln took a huge step in freeing slaves by using the Emancipation Proclamation. -
Cultivation
Rice cultivation was introduced into Carolina. Slave were imported more frequently because of this. -
Abolishment of Slavery
The biggest reason why slavery ended was the thirteenth amendment to the U.S. Constitution wich abolishes slavery throughout the country. -
Black Representatives
Not only were slaves free, two African Americans sat in the Massachusetts Legislature. This was the first time black representatives have participated. -
Blacks Right to Vote
Congress started to progress for the same rights as whites ever since the 13th Amendment and gave blacks the right to vote in Washington, D.C. -
14th Amendment
Not only did the 13th Amendment free slaves but, the fourteenth amendment gives all native born and naturalized people citizenship and gives blacks equal protection under the law. -
The Civil Rights Act
The Civil Rights Act of 1875 protects all Americans, regardless of race, to public accommodations and facilities such as restaurants, theaters, trains and other public transportation but, the law is not enforced, and the Supreme Court decided it was unconstitutional in 1883. -
