    The underground railroad
    Isaac T. Hopper, a Quaker, began a system for hiding and aiding runaway slaves in 1787. This is what started the Underground Railroad. March 20th is the first day of spring, and spring was the safest time to of the year to escape, therefore March 20, 1787 will be the start date. The end date, December 6, 1865 was when the 13th Amendment ending slavery was passed, thus ending the need to escape on the Underground Railroad.

    Thomas Garrett
    Thomas Garrett was born aug 21st 1789 in Derby pa and grew up in Delaware as a kid. His family helped runaway slaves and helped them to get to freedom. He was a free man born in the north but when they moved to Delaware they owned a slave. A slave that the Garrett’s owned got kidnapped and was almost forced into slavery. This devoted Garrett’s live to abolishment. Thomas helped 2,700 slaves to freedom and became a key station master. He severd as a station master for roughly 4 years.

    In that case the United States would no longer be equal. The north argued that Missouri should be a free state because it was a new state and the other states have joined with no conditions. James Tallmadge purposed that no more slaves be brought into Missouri and their children be let free at the age of 25.The north hated slavery. The result of the compromise was 2 fold. First Missouri was turned into a slave state.

    The north and south argued why Missouri should and shouldn’t be a free State. The biggest question is should there be slavery allowed in the state of Missouri. Their where already slaves in that state so it made the choice even harder to make. The south wanted Missouri to be a slave state because there where already slave holders there but James Tallmadge thought no more slaves should be brought into Missouri. The south argued that congress did not have the right to set standards for new states.
  • Nat Turners Rebillion

    hung. Before he was killed he was interviewd for a book called The Confessions Of Nat Turner. The courts decided that all the plantation owners would be reimbursed or paid back for the slaves they lost. Some slaves said they were threatened into joining. The after effects where over 200 slaves were murdered by mob violence in the years fallowing.

    Nat turner was and intelligent and religious man. He was the leader of a slave rebellion that took place in Virginia in 1831. He led about 65 slaves to the Travis plantation where they would start to rebel. They killed the whole family and 60 other plantation holders and there family’s. 3000 troops were sent to capture Nat Turner and his group. They were captured and tried for rebelling some were set free and others were found guilty and executed. After finding Nat Turner he was jailed and later

    Bleeding Kansas is a banch off fro the kansas nabraska act. The Kanses-Nabraka act stated thet Kansas and Nabraska had popular sovrenity. Every one was moveing into these staes to make sure they became free or slave, pro slavery people where moveing in so it can become a free state and anti-slavery people where moveing in so that they can get more free states. this led to a big blood bath over the summer fighting over these states.

    The compromise of 1850 is a compromised that saved the country. in 1850 free states and slave states where equal. Cali wanted to become a state. Tthis would mean there would be more free states then slave states. Henry clay begged the north and the south to compromise. He had worked out the missouri compromise. This compromise had 5 parts. the first part was for california to become a state. the second part wa to decide what would be done with the land won from the mexican war.

    Dread scott case-Dred was born a slave. He was owned by a good family and as sold to go do some doctor work. He was very close to the city why he din’t escape no one knows. Dred thought he had the right to sue for his freedom. Little did he know that he was very wrong. He tried and tried but no matter what he couldn’t win because slaves had no right or voice in the government. They also noticed that the compromise of 1820 was unconstitional.

    The Kansas-Nebraska Act was passed by the U.S. Congress on May 30, 1854. It allowed people in the territories of Kansas and Nebraska to decide for themselves whether or not to allow slavery within their borders. The Act served to repeal the Missouri Compromise of 1820 which prohibited slavery north of latitude 36°30´. They belived that the compromise of 1820 was unconstitutional and had it voided.

    The initial purpose of the Kansas Nebraska Act was to open up many thousands of new farms and make feasible a Midwestern Transcontinental Railroad. It became problematic when popular sovereignty was written into the proposal so that the voters of the moment would decide whether slavery would be allowed. The result was that pro and anti-slavery elements flooded into Kansas with the goal of voting slavery up or down, leading to a bloody civil war there.

    The north didn’t mind but the south wanted revenge so they set up the attack on Fort Sumter.

    This election took place on November 6 1860. This election showed that you do not have to have any votes from the south to win a election. President Lincoln won the election without one single vote from the south. The south had a lot less people to vote and loss to the north by quite a bit. The south did not agree with this decision so they started to succeed from the union and one by one they where all becoming a part of a different place.

    After Lincoln was inaugerated, he announced that he will bring supplies into Fort Sumter but not troops. He said that he doesn't want to declare war, but if the south tries to stop the supplying of Fort Sumter or if the south attacks Fort Sumter, it will become war. Southerners decided to not be cowards and attack Fort Sumter. This is the final event leading to the civil war
