Underground railroad
the underground railroad was a way for slaves to find their way to freedom, a secret network of people, places, and routes in the north that led slaves to freedom in large cities,black communities and Canada.

The Missouri Comprimise
The Missouri Comprimise was when it was decided that Missouri would be a slave state if all the rest of the states above the 36' 30 line be free, and under be slave. Also Maine was emitted at the same time so there was equal amount of free and slave states.(12 free and 12 slave) -
Nat Turners Rebellion
Nat Turners Rebellion 60 plantation owners and families were murdered. This resolted in many slaves lossing their freedom(the Black Codes) and their lives. Frederick Douglass
Frederick Douglass was an escaped slave that, among other things, was most well known for his famous speeches. He also was, a station master on the underground railroad, wrate "Narretive of the Life of Frederick Douglass," as well as "The North Star" newspaper, and convinced the north to let slaves fight in the Civil War

Compromise of 1850
Missouri would be accepted to state, as a slave state, if and only if all states now formed above the 36"30 line would be free and that Maine joined state hood at the same time to keep the balence between free and slave states.

The Kansas Nebraska Act
Stephen Douglass came up with this act so that he would get votes from each side of the country. This act proclaimed that the two territories would use popular sovereignty to decide if they would be pro or anti-slavery.

Bleeding Kansas
After the Missouri Compromise tension in Kansas grew. Peopke started to rush to the territory to try to claim it for either slavery, or anti-slavery. Abolitionist John Brown lead a raid near Pottamics Creek and killed men in front of their families. This started a series of murderous raids which gave Kansas its nick name "Bleeding Kansas"

Dred Scott Case
Dreds Scotts Case increased the already staining tension between the north and the south.The north was mad that they discarded the compromise of 1820,and the south was angry because they think slaves are not people but property. In the end Scott lost the case, but was latered freed and died a free man.

Election of 1860
Abraham Lincoln - was for republicans, and had the vote of all the free states except 1/2 of NJ. Stephen Douglass - was democrate (north), and had the statesMissouriand 1/2 of NJ. John Breckingridge - was democrate (south), and had North Carolina, Arkansas, Delaware, Maryland, and lower south. John Bell - was constitutional union, Kentucy, Vaginia, and Tennessee. Abraham Lincoln won with 180 of 303 electorial votes, and 40% of poupular votes.
