it was in 1950 skateboarding first started, it was the mellow surfers who got the idea to surf on the streets, but nobody knows who made the first board. At the first skateboarding was only downhill slalom or freestyle, not much grinding and no big air jumps, in NYC streets. -

it was in 1970 skateboarding started to seems like it do today. it was the skateboard-contests, who gives the sport a such a big push to the sport we see today. -

During the 80's, skateboarding began to influence clothing styles, music and culture. -

in 1990, in New York City, did the first public skate park opened. -
skateboarding in 2000
in 2000 skateboarding became more mainstream, there has been putted much more moneys in to skateboarding and there are more skateparks, better skateboards and more skateboarding companies support the skaters. -
skateborading today
today you can acctually join the Uptown skate school in NYC, and get one on one personal skateboarding lessons. There are even talks about skateboarding becoming an Olympic sport. And they say that NYC is a skaters paradise.
