  • The start of skateboarding

    Surfers got the idea of surfing the streets with wooden boxes and rollerskater wheels. The first skateboards was very simple. In the beginning the surfers surfed the streets like waves. They werent doing tricks, but mostly carving downhill.

  • The 70's

    The sport began to look like it is today with contests, events and stuff like that.

  • The 80's

    Skateboarding began to influence music, style, slangwords and clothes.

  • The 90's

    NYC's first public skatepark was made.

  • 2000 and up

    It began to be mainstream to skateboard. Allot of money has been put into skateboarding. More skateparks, skateboardbrands, sponsors and contests or events. You can also get skateboard lessons, and there are talks about skateboarding going to the olympic games.
