    William Gerald Golding was born is Saint Columb Minor, Cornwall, England. His mother Mildred, was a British suffragette supporter and his father was a schoolteacher.

    Childhood-College Graduation

    Golding began his childhood education when he attended his father's school, the Marlborough Grammar School. There he studied until 1930, when he went to the Brasenose College at Oxford University. There he studied science to please his father. But after 2 years, he decided to switch English literature. In 1934, a year before his graduation, Golding published a volume of poems. In 1935, William Golding graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English.

    Early Carrer

    After graduating, Golding found a job as a writer, actor, and producer for a small theater. Eventually in 1939, he became a teacher, teaching English and philosophy at Bishop Wordsworth’s School in Salisbury.

    WW II

    In 1940, William Golding joined the Royal Navy and fought in the Second World War. He went back to teaching and writing in 1945 after the war ended and he was discharged.

    In 1954, William Golding successfully published the book Lord of the Flies, after 21 rejections. This book was a big success and William Golding continued to publish books ad poems afetr. A movie was made about the book in 1963 and another in 1990.

    In 1963, William Golding retired from teaching to wrtie novels and poems full time. His success in Enlish literature won him a Nobel prize two decades later and he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 1988.

    On June 19, 1993, William Golding suffered a heart attack in Perranaworthal, Cornwall. He died later that day. Today, his work is recongnized as exquisite work of English literature. His books and poems have on many awards and evn after his death, he is still gets regonization for his work.
