Colonists from England land in America. Relations with the Native Americans begins as the colonists find the need for food and other resources. When Native Americans were first encountered, they were viewed as being innocent and pure. -

The Governer of Massachusets wrote in his journal that the outbreaks of smallpox which were "thinning out" Native American populations was a godsend. -

Mohicans in Conneticut petition England to prevent European settlers from taking their lands. The petition is denied. -

Britain bans all settling/purchasing of land West of the Appalachians. The ban is not heeded and settling continues. -

The Trail of Tears
President Andrew Jackson orders the military to enforce the "Indian Removal Act". "The Indian Removal Act" was basically a government approved eviction of Native Americans from their lands and their forced march to an indian reservation. The Trail of Tears is the path the Native Americans took to get to the reservation, named because of their sorrow at losing their home and in many cases, the death of a family or tribe member. -
