Battle of Fort Sumter
This was the first battle of the Civil War and it lasted a whole day. This battle was located in South Carolina near Charleston. During this war, there was no Confederate Soldiers dead, only some Union soldiers which is why the South (Confederates) won this war. The picture here shows that they used bombs and canyons. Fort Sumter was completely destroyed after that. This place is historically significant because that is where it all began. -
Battle of Shiloh
The battle of Shiloh was the third battle of the Civil War. It was a Confederacy surprise attack on the Union's unprepared troops in Shiloh Tennessee. This resulted in 13,000 Union soldiers dead and 10,000 Confederate soldiers wounded. The picture shows people fighting and running away from each other and many people on the ground to show that there were many people that died that day. This battle was so important is because it was the first battle that had a large number of deaths. -
Gettysburg Battle
This is the Battle that turns against the South as the Confederates lose the battle of Gettysburg in Pensylvania. This was considered the bloodiest battle of the war and both sides lost a large number of troops. The picture shows that there aren't many people in the ground dead but in reality, there was a lot. The thing that made this a special war, was that it was a 3 day long battle and it just so happens to be the worst one of all just because of how many deaths there was. -
Chancellorsville Battle
The Union Army under Gen. Hooker is defeated by Lee's smaller troop in Chancellorsville Virginia. At this time Confederate Gen. Stonewall Jackson is mortally wounded and died along with 20,000 other men in total. (17,000 Union Soldiers and 13,000 Confederates) Which leaves the South winning again. In the picture it shows a lot of people dead and most of them were North soldiers. The reason that this war was a big part of history because of the reason that Stonewall Jackson died. -
Abraham Licoln's Speech
Also known as the Gettysburg address, Abraham Lincoln gave a speech which was thought to be the worst speech ever, but it was basically dedicated to all the people that died during the Gettysburg battle and gave it at the now know Gettysburg National Cemetery. The picture shows him the stage ready to deliver his speech. In the end, it's important because it helped a lot of people see things differntly and really inspired people. -
Abraham Licon's Death
Abraham Lincoln died on April 15th of the year 1865. He was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth at a theater. He had been planning to kidnap the president but soon that turned into something more and he killed him. He had men that were helping him and they not only tried to kill him but also the vice president and the secretary, both of which failed. The picture shows him getting shot, and many people thought it was a part of the show. He then died the next morning at 7:20am.
