Christopher Columbus reached the New World confidently thinking that he had landed in India. He claimed this land for Spain, becuase nobody else other than the Queen of Spain decided to sponsor him. -

African Slave Trade
The African Slave Trade was in the 1500's. In the African Slave Trade slaves would be bought. The way they would get their slaves was by kidnapping people from their home land taking them to differnt places with making them suffer in horrible conditions. They were bought by many rich people to work for them. -

New France
Jacques Cartier was sent to the New World representing France. He came looking for beaver fur, which he found to sell back at home. He kept a good relation with the Huron Indians and gave them weapons to fight off their enemies. -
The Lost Colony of Roanoke
Sir Walter Raleigh attempted to start a colony in Roanoke Island but failed to do so. After him he sent a group of Colonists to see if they coul ddo anything better. When they reached it was the worst time to grow crops, so they sent their leader back to get supplies for them. When he came back (3 years later), all he saw was the word CROTOAN written on the door. This word is unknown until today. -
Jamestown: The First English Colony
Jhon Cabot, an Italian exploring for England, sailed to Newfoundland, off the coast of present day Canada. He thought he landed in the perfect spot to make a new home, but then realized it was a swamp. It was flooded with mosquitos and diseases. His relations with the Native Americans were not even good. At first life there was horrible but then gradually got beter and better. -
New Netherland
Henry Hudson was the man who discovered this so called place New Netherlands., but when he discovered it there were already Native Americans living there. He decided to buy the land from them, so he gave them goods worth $24. In laughter the Native Americans said sure take it becuase they believed that nobody could own land. The relation the Dutch had with the Iroquois was strong they helped each other fight off their enemies and suplied specific materials to each other. -
Massachusetts
Massachusetts was ruled by Pilgrims and and then Puritans. The most imortantthing in Massachusetts was religion. Their religion was Puritan but the history behind it is a story to hear. In this picture you can see a way the puritans pray. -
The History of New York
When the English arrived to the Dutch colony they sent a letter to governer Peter Styuvesant telling them to surrender. Refusing Governor Peter tore up the letter into shreds. He was ready to fight until he heard that all the gunpowder in the city was damp and useless. Without a shot the Duke of York claimed the land. -
The Second Continental Congress
The Second Continental Congress was a group of men chosen with great thought to represent their colony. Each person was assigned to one of the 13 colonies. They made all the decisions about sending letters to King George, either keeping peace with the British or starting war, creating minute men (militia armies), and all the other decisions made before the independence of America. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
The battle of Bunker Hill was some serious blood shed caused from 1000 dead British troops and 500 dead Americans. This was the beginning of the war for independence and proved that America were strong and brave to fight of the King George and his Army. -
The Olive Branch Petition
Before the relationship between the home country and the country the home country ruled got any worst the Americans wanted peace to solve the problem. The Continental Congress wrote a letter to King George pleading for peace so that neither of the countries would become a complete disaster. Before the response was given George commanded his men to bring traitors to justice. -
The Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence stated that there was a separation that they were awaiting between the two countries, America and Britain. If the letter failed to separate the Eurpoeans and the Americans then all the delegates who signed the paper would be hung, if not alone then together. -
The Siege of Boston (The British Abandon Boston)
The Continental Army was restocked with weapons and artillery. After being armed and suited they surrounded the British Army when they woke. The British army had no other choice but to fled and run away which they did to avoid their own death. They were so heavily threatened that they never returned to Boston. -
Louisiana Purchase
America gained the Louisiana Territory by the French due to the act of seeding. There were a lot of troubles that the French were facing and they were not able to handle anymore so they seeded their land to America for the price of $15 million at the rate of about 2 to 3 cents per acre. After the addition of Louisiana America was almost doubled. -
Missouri applied for statehood as a slave state
The southerns applied for Missouri to become part of their side as a slave state. This wouldn't be fair becasue the southerns had more states than the northeners, which doesnt make it equal. There was a discussion upon this topic and the result was something different. Maine another state which is not part of the southerners or the northerners because a anti- slave state and missouri became a slave state. -
Spain Gives Florida To The US
Andrew Jackson the President of the United States of America wanted to expand their land over the continent of North America, so he decided to invade Florida. Without even asking Spain for the land (the owners of Florida at that time), he decided to take it the harsh way. He gathered 1,700 troops and was ready to invade. Spain not being the real strong men just decided to take it the peaceful and normal way and just sell it to Andrew Jackson and his country so that there doesn’t turn out to be a -
The Indian Removal Act
President Andrew Jackson wanted to move the Indians to a place where they would all be together away from the “ordinary Americans.” Many refused but then were threatened with guns and other machinery to move or else they would be fired at. Finally everybody decided to move into the state today called “Oregon.” -
The "Trail of Tears"
The Cherokee Indians, were forced to walk about 1000 miles from Georgia to their new territory, Oregon. 4000 out of the 17.000 Cherokees were killed along the away. Many from children to grandparents all bid farewell to their young and old. Thus it is called the Trail of Tears. -
Annex of Texas
Texas was a valuable piece of land owned by the valuable people; Spanish. Americans wanted this land to settle in and Mexico wanted the same. Through rebellion with the two countries Texas was left independent for 10 years. Americans with their great minds came out the hustle and decided to annex it to make it their own. -
The Oregon Treaty
President Polk wanted to annex all of Oregon, but it was claimed by Britain. He didn't want to risk a war with Britain because he had already experienced it and it wasn’t such an amusing experience, so the two countries created a treaty deciding that Oregon would be split at the 49th parallel. -
War with Mexico
After Texas was annexed America declared war on Mexico. After many battles and brutal blood shedding fights. Mexico and America signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo which led to making Mexico handing over more then half its territory to the American President and there public. -
The Fugitive Slave Law caused bitterness between the North and South
Northerners we not happy with this rule because if they come into the anti- slave states they are not allowed to act as slaves or do anything or live anyway the slaves live. If slaves ran away and came to the North, and their master came looking for them, to take them back they were aplicable to do so. It dissapointed many, and was not a fair nor equal rule. -
Jhon Brown attacked the arsenal at Harpers Ferry to geat weapons for slave rebellion.
Southerners were scared of this man because he killed every man who supposrted slavery. They also didnt like him because he tried supporting slaves by giving them weapons to fight against there masters and cause a rebellion. He came and attacked many people, but unfortunately he wasnt succesful. He had a 7 man team; his 6 sons and him. They fought hard all 6 of them dieing and him being put behind bars. He was expecting slaves to help him fight but unluckily they didnt come to the rescue. -
In 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected president
This was bad for the southerners because there current presedent supported ant- slavery and would work toward making an anti- slavery America. -
Civil War (start, end and reason for war)
The Civil War between the Southern states and the Northerern states started in the year of 1861 in the month of April and ended in the year of 1865. The reason it started was for the fight of slavery. The Southern states (the confederacy) supported slavery and used slaves in the houses. The Northern states (the unioun) were against slavery and they didn't want slaves in any houses. Victory was given to the Northerns and slavery was abolished in the United States of America.
