Creek War
(1813-1814) The Creek War in Alabama forced many Indians South to Northern Florida. They joined Florida Indians there. General Andrew Jackson also rose to power. -
First War
Jackson lead US troops to Florida and a Spanish colony leading to the first Seminole War. -
Treaty of Moultrie Creek
The Seminole gave up 28 million acres of land and only kept 4 million. -
Treaty of Payne's Landing
It was ratified by Congress and promises 5 million acres in southwest for the Florida Seminoles. -
Trail of Tears
Around 3,000 Seminole shipped to Oklahoma. -
Indian Reorganization Act
It promoted American Indian self-determination. -
Termination
The Uniteed States House of Reps. proposes the termination of Seminole tribe. -
Constitution
The Seminole Constitution was ratified by a vote of 241-5. The tribe gained the federal status as the Seminole Tribe of Florida. The first tribal council was elected, Billy Osceola was the first elected chairman and the first annual budget was $12,000. -
Federal Recognition
The Miccosukee tribe gained federal recognition. -
Hollywood
The U.S. Supreme Court affirmed the tribe's right to high-stakes bingo at Hollywood in Seminole Tribe os Florida vs. Butterworth and the Tampa bingo hall opens.
