Semester 1 final project

  • The Steam Engine

A machine powered by heat, that converts heat into mechanical energy allowing for steam to be used as some sort of a working fluid. The force produced by steam is used to push a piston back and forth repeatedly inside of a cylinder. In today's world, the stream engine is used to help power ships (which per year, move 10.7 billion tons) and they also are used to spin large turbines that generate electricity all around the planet.
  • Industrial Revolution

The Industrial Revolution, perhaps one of the greatest technological increases known to man. Occurring between the years 1760 to between 1820 to 1840, the Industrial Revolution brought inventions and machines that altered the way we manufacture things. Without the cost of physical labor, it was made possible to produce and manufacture things at a much greater rate, with the cost of fuels. Overall the Industrial Revolution has increased our civilizations, though, has negatively effected the earth
  • The Loom

A mechanical loom known as a "power loom" was a major advancement in the early Industrial Revolution's industrialisation of weaving. Edmund Cartwright created the first power loom, which was constructed for the first time in 1786. Even today, while greatly altered and changed, power looms are used. If it weren't for the power loom, prices regarding cloth made materials would be much higher as the production would be much lower. Along with the decrease in physical labor.
  • The Lewis and Clark Expedition

The Lewis and Clark Expedition spanned from May 14th, 1803, all the way until September 23, 1806. The main objective of this Expedition was to map and explore newly acquired land by Thomas Jefferson. The acquired land, namely, the Louisiana purchase, was a large territory consisting of the states know today as: Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and finally Louisiana. Scaling large, it needed an exploration guide.
  • The Manifest Destiny

The Manifest Destiny, the belief in which America is predestined by God to expand its dominion along with its democracy and capitalism all across the whole North American continent. Due to the tensions being put over slavery, the country began to split eventually leading to the Civil War. The Manifest Destiny continues to have a play in our country today, as it influences America's mission to pro mote democracy.
  • The 13th Amendment

With reconstruction, the 13th amendment was set into place, this allowed slaves to be freed from their slave owners and start a life for themselves. This allowed blacks to vote, work, and live under the white dominated society. Though the 13 amendment abolished slavery, it wasn't until 1964 that the mistreatment of African Americans was abolished by law. Even today, racism is not fully gone as it still effects our world today, causing people to be divided and sorts.
