Germany attacks Western Europe
Germany attacks Western Europe: France and the Netherlands, which were neutral; Luxembourg is occupied on May 10; Holland surrenders on May 14; and Belgium surrenders on the 28th of that same month. On June 22, France signs an armistice agreement whereby the Germans occupy the northern half of the country and the entire Atlantic coast. In the south of France a collaborationist regime was established with capital in Vichy.
