A 1946 race to become governor was between 3 candidates who all believed that they had the right to be governor. This happened because Herman Talmadge was sick so him, his son, and Eugene Talmadge all tried to be governor -
Herman Talmadge

Silbey Commision
Sibley commision was a commision made to decide whether or not governor Ernest Vandiver Jr. should desegregate schools. Ernest Vandiver Jr. got recomended that he should desegregate schools by the commision and eventually did desegregate.

Albany movement
video about the Albany Movement The Albany movement was one of the first big movements in regards to civil rights. It was a movement where NAACP and the SNCC tried to desegregrate. It caused over one thousand African Americans to be jailed. This occured between the fall of 1961 until the summer of 1962. -

About 250,000 people went to this rally. Many speeches such as Martin Luther King Jr.'s, "I Have a Dream Speech," were gavin there. Lester Maddox
Lester Maddox was a racist governor. He was also famous for chasing African Americans out of his restaurant with a gun. He did this and his case went to trial where he was forced to itnegrate his restaurant. He sold his restaurant after this. -
Hamilton Holmes and Charlayne Hunter to UGA

After not being admitted due to, 'Limited space," these two African Americans filed a civil sue against UGA. Holmes and Hunter were admitted; although many chants protests were directed at them. -
Maynard Jackson takes office
Maynard Jackson was Atlanta's first African American mayor. He waws governor for 3 terms during a period of racial tension between blacks and whites. He helped bring the olympics to Atlanta and helped do many other things while in office.
