The phrase "Under God" was added to the Pledge of Allegiance
Louis Bowman wanted to change up the way the pledge sounded. He wanted to add "Under God" to the pledge. He had to get this passed by President Dwight D Eisenhower. It eventually was passed and now it is in the Pledge of Allegiance. -
Ellis Island Closes for Immigrants
Ellis Island is officially closed for immigrants to come in. There has been over 12 million immigrants to come into America since 1892. New York was becoming over populated. Immigration center was later set up. -
Polio Vaccine was tested
Polio Vaccine was first given as a shoot in 1955. Many people got paralyzed from it and some even died. Changes were obviously made from then to now, so therefore it is now safe. -

Emmett Till, a fourteen year old boy was murdered for not showing respect to a white woman in Money, Mississippi. He is from Chicago and was visiting family. He was flirting with the white woman. Her husband and brother made him carry a 75 pound fan all the way to the river where they brutally murdered him and threw him in the river tied up to the fan. -

Rosa Parks gets arrested because she refused to get up from her seat on the bus to give it to a white person. This was called Racial Segregation. The African Americans had to give up their bus seats for the whites. -

The Frisbee was introduced by the company Wham-O. It all started in Connecticut. Invented by Walter Frederick Morrison. Still very popular today. Has definitely evolved over time. -

Dr. Seuss, published The Cat In The Hat on March 12th, 1957. This was a major hit around the world, and is still popular today. It is one of the many famous Dr. Seuss books in the world! I can guarantee you that every child has heard and read on of these books! -

Eisenhower sends federal troops to Little Rock, Arkansas, to enforce the court-ordered desegregation of the city's public schools. As a result, nine Black students are allowed to attend classes at Little Rock Central High School. -
