    The French and Indian War is started with the French and American Indians against the British. Once the British defeated the French and American Indians, they gained control of eastern North America.
  • Treaty of Paris

    In 1763, the Treaty of Paris was signed to officially end the French and Indian War, This caused the British to win the war and caused the French to lose land.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    This proclamation ordered all of the colonists to remain east of the Appalachian Mountains. However, many colonists went westward and invaded Native American land.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    Protesters in Boston threw rocks and snowballs at British soldiers in Boston. Eventually, the British fired their rifles at them and killed 5 protesters. This outraged Parliament and led to more taxes and laws against the colonies.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    Once Parliament passed the Tea Act, which taxed tea to help fund the British East India Company, the Patriots, who were people who wanted to gain independence from Britain, dumped tea into a harbor in Boston. This enraged Britain and Parliament passed the Coercive Acts, which were a series of acts to punish Boston and to pay for the destroyed tea.

    The First Continental Congress
    A meeting for delegates in every colony except Georgia to discuss the Coercive Acts, or Intolerable Acts. The delegates decided to boycott all British goods in order to pressure Parliament.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    On June 17, 1775, the colonies lost against the British at Bunker Hill, which is located in Charlestown, Massachusetts. The inexperienced colonists lost a significant number of soldiers. It occurred during the Siege of Boston (1775-1776).
  • Declaration of Independence

    On July 2, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was approved by Congress. It was written by Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and John Adams. It said that America was free and independent.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    In 1777, the Battle of Saratoga occurred. It is considered the turning point in the war because the Patriot victory convinced the French to ally with the United States. It is also the greatest Patriot victory yet. Many people also started to believe that the colonies were going to win the war.

    In 1783, the Treaty of Paris is signed to officially end the American Revolution. This granted the United States independence and territory.
