Missouri Compromise
the missoury compromise was the compromise that the us admitting Missouri as a slave state and Maine as a free state, keeping the number of free and slave states equal. It also divided the rest of the Louisiana Purchase into slave and free territory. is helped caused the civil war making a compromise later in date mess up a system that would balance between slave and free states. -

slavery was a big thing in the 1800, slavery was a controversial thing and split the nation in have. People used slaves to bring help in cotton farms to pick the cotton and separate the seeds. the debate beetween lincoln and douglas was a big thing that happened. it showed there veiw on slaver and what will happen with it if they become president. abraham lincoln said that if one man wouldd want a slave no one can keep him from that but popular soravorty would not work beacouse of the way it wuld make everyone in that territory eather have slaves or not while douglas says that slavery would be moniered by the law informents (police). -

Breckenridge and john bell from the constitutional union party, lincoln won in the end when the votes for the democratic party was split up between douglas and breckenrifge making lincoln get the uper hand and win the election to further fight against slaver
