    In the Missouri compromise the main issue was weather new states would be admitted as free or slave states. The North and South were impacted because they had to have the same amount of states. It increased tension by making slavery a national political issue.

    South Carolina succeeded because of the federal government. The south had lost a state and the North was mad about the slavery laws.

    The compromise of 1850 was when California was admitted as a free state and popular sovereignty was brought into the problem. African American were hurt because of the more strict fugitive slave laws coming out. The North was getting more territory and it wasn't so equal anymore.

    There was a book made about how slavery really was for the African Americans. The south was majorly impacted because if caught with a book it had to be burned and you would be ailed but also the North really understood how bad it was. This book made the North not like the south even more and see how its hurting slaves.

The slaves that were free suffered because they had to be taken back and be punished for there actions but also northerner that helped them because they would be jailed and fined. The North felt as if they were in support because of the forced giving back and this did make them the happiest.

    In the Nebraska territory and Kansas territory it was up to the people that settled there to decide whether they should be slave or free states canceling the Missouri compromise. Both sides could have felt as if they were going to get outnumbered by one way or the other. There was constant back and forth arguments and fights over states.

    John Brown thought that violence was the only thing to fix the slavery issues so they killed 52 political figures in a raid. When John Brown was put in jail and killed the abolitionists felt they had lost someone very important to them. The violence was growing and putting an even more of a divide between the north and south.

    Dred Scott was a slave and his owner over to the North for a long time and took Scott with him. When the owner went back to the North Dred Scott was forced to come back even though he was considered free. This case was brought to the supreme court and said the slave was the owners property to what he wants with. Slaves were impacted because they were counted as property not people.

    John Browns raid was in Harper's fairy,VA. His men and him went out to kill pro- slavery politicians. During his trial he was set to be hung for his actions. Abolitionists felt as if they had lost a person supporting there cause and actually made a difference. This added tension because of the killing the abolitionists were seen as violent and scary.

    Lincoln was elected as a person who did not support slavery. The South did not feel as if they were connected to the rest of the United States after he was elected. States started to succeed and the US was not United anymore.
