    As there needed to be equal amount of free states and slave states the Missouri compromise gave balance to power in congress and Maine would become a free state and Missouri a slave state as this increased sectionalism by the states still wanting to separate and the conflict to have or not to have slaves.

This created conflict towards sectionalism because the two side were at such differences with each other they would never agree on one side.

    John Brown wanted to create a uprising of slaves by seizing a mountain fortress as him and 18 followers went on this raid 10 were killed then surrendered and John Brown was sentenced to death and Nat Turners raid was the largest salve rebellion in the U.S the plan was to go to each plantation and kill all while people. These events made the southerners angry and gave them more a reason to want to keep slaves to have more control witch would contribute more the secession of the south

    Popular Sovereignity was a concept that the sovereign people in a specific territory would decide whether or not to allow slavery. it was opposed by northern abolitionist because they were afraid that it would promote the spread of slavery into the territories. Senator Douglas wanted to restore the principles of popular sovereignity for a way to address the slavery debate, during this time it was in Kansas and Nebraska territories.

    Dred Scott was an enslaved african american who had lived in Wisconsin territory and Illinios, which both states had banned slavery. Because of this, Scott sued for him and his families freedom. His argument was that since he lived in a free state and free territory, he was considered to be a free man.This end up leading up to the civil war because this was an example of showing that african americans did not have civil rights, like the white man did.
