    Congress passed the Equal Pay Act as an amendment to the Fair Labor Standards Act. This was a law that aimed to abolish wage disparity based on gender. As a result, women's salaries vs mens have dramatically risen since the Equal Pay Act has been enacted.
  • Betty Friedan's book "Feminine Mystique" is published

    The second wave women's rights activity began in the early 1960s and lasted through the 1980s. Betty Friedan's book, "Feminine Mystique" is largely responsible for the second wave feminist movement. Friedan was a housewife and mother with a long history of political activism who explained womens' dissatisfaction with their sexist roles as mother and wife. She did not blame women for adapting to the role, instead, she made society responsible for creating it.

  • Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act

    Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act
    The first bill signed into law by President Barack Obama on January 29, 2009. The Act amends the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The new act states that the 180-day statute of limitations for filing an equal-pay lawsuit regarding pay discrimination resets with each new paycheck affected by that discriminatory action.
