Boys Caught
PicturewebsiteNine boys where caught on a train where they had jumoed it. They where caught with 2 women who claimed to have been raped by the boys. In reality they had been thrown under the bus by the women. They had jumped the train and the got in a fight with some white men. The white man had stepped ont he hand of a black boy resulting in a fight.

Pregnancy Test
WebsiteDr.BRidges examined the women two hours after the alleged rape. He did not see any damage in the women parts and they did not have any scars or anything on there body.

Boys Almost lynched

First Trial
The trials begin for the Scottsboro brothers before the judge A.E Hawkins. Stephen Roddy and MIlo Moody represented the boys. Most of the newspaper headlines said that the case was basically already decided.

Sentenced to Death
On this day eight of the scottsborro boys where convicted of the crime and sentenced to death. This declaration was only made by the Alabama State and after this the Communist Party declared to be on the side of the Scottsborro Boys.

Ruby Bates Rape Test
This is not the exact date or month none was available) Samuel Leibowitz set up another trial where he proved that Ruby Bates had intercourse before she entered the train and that she had not in fact gotten raped by the boys. After this Ruby confessed that she hadnt been raped but Victoria Pricfe stuck to her story.

Death Sentence Affirmed
WebsiteThe Alabama Surpreme court affirmed the guiltiness of the Scottsborro boys by a vote of 6-1. Later on the United States Surpreme Court overturned the case of Powell vs. Alabama. The sourt ruled that the trial had not followed the 14th admendment due process clause and they voted that all of the trials had to be redone.

Haywood Patterson
The second trial of Haywood Patterson was scheduled on this day by Judge James Horton. He ended up being found guilty and sentenced to death in the electric chair on April 9th.

Victoria Price
Victoria Pice was called to a trail. This trial was short only 16 minutes. She retold her story she had had intercourse with Jack Tiller 2 days before she went on the train. When she was found on the train she was not bruised bleeding or physically hurt. She was a prostitute.

Patterson retrial
Horton felt convinced that the girls where lying so he met with a Doctor who felt the same about that. The doctor was to afraid to come and testify so James Horton repealed the death sentence and re-trialed.

United States Court
The case was brought before the United States Surpreme Court in the arguments around Patterson and Noris. Six weeks later that announced the Alabama Court unconstitutional and reversed the convictions.

Compromise?
Many of the black men where waiting , there trials where pending and Patterson was awaiting his appeal. Thoms Knight and Leibowitz met to make a compromise because they where both tired of the trials.

He was a man who was trying to compromise and was actually getting pretty far and then he suddenly died. The trials resumed.

Freed?
Six of the boys where freed. The where excorted out of Alabama and into Tennesse where they where left to live. They still had the label of Scottsborro Boys though.
