    Claudius Ptolemy

    Based on observations he made with his naked eye, Ptolemy saw the Universe as a set of nested, transparent spheres, with Earth in the center. He posited that the Moon, Mercury, Venus, and the Sun all revolved around Earth.

    Nicolaus Copernicus

    First scientist to propose that Earth and other planets revolved around the sun. This was very important as it was the first Heliocentric Theory of the Universe.

    He showed irregularities in the moon's orbit and discovered a new star in the Cassiopeia Formation. Some of his discoveries led to the improved observational equipment.

    He discovered that the orbit of Mars was an ellipse. Very important because it led to further exploration of planets other than Earth. 1600
