Democritus is Born
-
431 BCE
Major World Event
After Democritus discovered the Atom and idealized it, the Peloponnesian war occurred, a war between Athens and Sparta - the two most powerful city-states in ancient Greece at this time. This war shifted Athens' power to make Sparta the most powerful city-state in the region. -
398 BCE
Democritus Discovery of Atom + Theory
This was the introduction and creation of the Atom. Democritus idealized the model of an atom as a small particle and was considered a building block of all matter. Democritus’s theory was that atoms were tiny, uncuttable, solid particles that were surrounded by space and moved in random directions. -

The "marbel" model - John Dalton
-
John Dalton Theory + Model
Dalton’s discovery and research allowed him to add on to the discovery of atoms by including that every single atom of an element has the same as every other atom of that element. Dalton was the first to describe all matter in terms of atoms and their properties. This didn't change the atomic model but added more sense into it, eventually relying on a new model because of this discovery. -
John Daltons Death
-
Michael Faraday Theory + Model
Faraday's Law is based on his discovery that an oscillating magnetic field will induce an electric current. The integral form of the law describes the movement of a charged particle that has been motivated by an electromotive force through a magnetic field. This changed the atomic model by giving the particles a charged affect and not a constant affect. -

Major World Event
After Dalton's theory, the first periodic table was introduced and published including 20 elements and their atomic weights. Also, many experiments were conducted that proved charged particles exist. This later led to something bigger. -
Ernest Rutherford Birth
-
Major World Event
The very first electric chair was used and working. Also Wyoming became a state in the United States becoming one of the last territories to become a state. -
Eugene Goldstein's theory + Model
He came up with a completely different model of the Atom. He said that in addition to electrons, or cathode rays, that travel from the negatively charged cathode toward the positively charged anode, there is another ray that travels in the opposite direction, from the anode toward the cathode. He also discovered the Proton. These discoveries later were an add on to the discovery of the electron. -

"Plum Pudding Model" - JJ Thomson
-
Thomson's Theory + Model
In 1897, JJ Thomson announced that atoms were made with multiple smaller components. JJ Thomson also the same year discovered the electron which played a big role in his theory. Discovering the electron meant that he added them into the atomic model as a big role and part of the atom. -
Werner Heisenberg birth

Major World Event
Franklin Pierce elected as U.S president. Buenos Aires gains independence from Argentina. Also the infamous charge of the Light Brigade during the battle of Balaclava in the Crimean war. -
Robert Millikan Theory + Model
Later in the early 1910’s, Robert discovered the magnitude of an Electron charge and did this by completing the oil drop experiment. This experiments affected the atomic model including a charge in the electrons and gave different elements different amount of Electrons. -
"Nuclear" model - Earnest Rutherford
-
"Jimmy Neutron" model - Earnest Rutherford
-
Rutherfords Theory + Model
Rutherford discovered in 1911 the Proton and came up with the Rutherford model as well as also discovering the Atomic nucleus and Radon. His model consisted of negative and positive charged particles. This gave particles now a negative point of view and made the particles in an atom have different affects. -
Major World Event
Hiram Bingham finds Machu Picchu in the Andes. Bingham and Carrasco met Melchor Arteaga at a small house along the road. Arteaga pointed them towards a high peak, Huayna Picchu, indicating the ruins across the mountain range. -
Major World Event
The Titanic sets sail on her voyage from Southampton, New York. No one on that ship new there was going to be a tragedy of a lifetime. In 1912, the boat sunk after hitting an iceberg. -
Major World Event
The Mona Lisa was recovered two years after it’s theft from the Louvre museum in Paris. Former Louvre employee, Vincenzo Perugia, made off with the “Mona Lisa,” with hopes to return the painting to her rightful home, Italy. -
"Solar System Model" - Neils Bohr
-
Niels Bohr Theory + Model
Niels Bohr discovered the Nucleus and the development of the atomic model, planetary model. He suggested that there were multiple layers to the model almost like rings. This changed the atomic model giving it a 3 dimensional look of a almost - like solar system including a ring around it. -
Werner Heisenberg Theory + Model
In Heisenberg's principle, it states that the position and momentum of a particle cannot be known precisely at the same time. As one property is more precisely measured, the other becomes less precise and unknown. He said it wasn’t possible to predict the value of both variables. This experiment and theory affected the atomic model by allowing particles positioning to be unknown and random. -

Major World Event
October 29, 1929, the stock market crashed causing a depression. This was later exchanged at the start of World War 1 with Germany’s invasion of Poland. -
James Chadwick Theory + Model
Chadwick discovered the neutrons in an Atom which devoid an electrical charge. This discovery changed the atom model adding neutrons to it but also changed the order of the original protons and electrons. This made his model the most advanced and the most accurate. -

Erwin Schrodinger Theory + Model
Edwin discovered the wave equation for electron movements electron cloud model. Erwin's model consisted of these circular objects known as nodes which consisted of 2-3 of them inside the Atom. This allowed connections between the particles and furtherly advanced the atomic equation and model. -
